Every Quacks game uses a set of ingredient books that will give special abilities to the players. Before starting the game, take your time to know those and understand how different chips work or synergize with each other.
Building your bag early on is important as it will allow you to draw more chips from your bag and increase your chances of getting better ingredients during the evaluation phase. Even if your potion explodes, choose to buy chips instead of victory points till late in the game.
The game is all about taking risks and pushing your luck. Avoid stopping to draw too early to prevent an explosion. After all, explosions are part of the game. You should aim to go as far as you can in the scoring space of the pot.
Keep an eye on what your opponents are doing and try to anticipate their moves. If you see that they're going for a certain strategy, try to counter it.
Increasing your chips in the bag is the most viable way of getting far in the scoring space in the pot. In a round, even before starting to draw chips estimate where you need to be in the pot to be able to buy the chips you need at the end of the round and aim to get there.
When you have drawn enough cherry bombs already if in the worst case if the next cherry bomb draw will lead to an explosion, use the flask to put that cherry bomb back into the bag. Let's say you have drawn one 3-white, 2-white, and 1-white chip respectively, the next draw can be a 2-white chip which will explode your pot. Hence, you can use the flask as risk aversion.
During the early rounds, say 1 - 3, it may be okay to use the pair of rubies to advance the droplet one space. But, after that, filling up the flask becomes more advantageous as you would have enough chips in the bag to advance more in the pot space.
As you become more familiar with the game, try experimenting with different ingredient combinations to see what works best for you. Don't be afraid to try new things and take risks. During the start of the game, determine which color chips you are going to go after and stick with the strategy.
Rubies are used to fill the flask or advance the droplet one space at the end of the round. Make sure you have enough rubies to perform the action you want.
If you are higher up in the score space after the draw and if your potion hadn't exploded, you get to roll a die to get bonus benefits like victory points, an orange chip, a ruby or a droplet. Check where other players have stopped in the scoring space and see if you can go higher than them for the bonus die.
As the game progresses, start thinking about the end game and how you can maximize your points. Aim to score more victory points towards the end of the game.
